Simulation on Lake St Louis of an explosion on a boat at night. 20 people injured. 11 are on the boat, and 9 are ejected into the water.
The purpose of the exercise was to qualify for a "Night Time Search and Rescue certification" and so that Unite 43 would learn how to work with all the various agencies around Lake St Louis, and be better prepared in the event of a real emergency.
The event began with a BBQ supper, at the Lachine Marina, followed by a briefing of how to work with multiple units. The simulation began at 20:00 and finished at 23:30, followed by a de-briefing.
During the exercise, we had to locate the stricken craft, assess the condition of the survivors, and evacuate them to a location where ambulances could treat and take them to hospitals, while also searching in the dark for survivors that had been carried away by the current.
75 People participated in the event, including watercraft and members of all the fire-departments, Montreal Police dept, Canadian Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Quebec Provincial Police (Boat & Helicopter), SIFA, Urgences Sante(ambulance), Club Nautique Pointe Picard, Pro-Motion Marine Inc, La Societe de Sauvetage, and Marine Colntrol Montreal Radio. There were a total of 15 boats, 2 personal watercraft, 1 helicopter, and 3 ambulances.
The event was organized by Unit 43, under the supervision of our assistant-commander, Pierre Lefebvre.
We need volenteers.
